Five decades of Veuve Clicquot Long Lunch – 20 April 2024

It’s my great pleasure to invite you to an extraordinary experience of the greatest champagne vintages of each of the past five decades, including five en magnum, at Montrachet on Saturday 20 April 2024.

Of every great champagne I have ever tasted from the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s, one house has put forward almost four times the number of highlights of any other. In fact, of the five houses that top the ranks, I have tasted great old vintages of Veuve Clicquot as many times as all four others put together.

I have selected the very greatest of these vintages to assemble the first champagne tasting I have ever presented encompassing five decades. Provenance is everything in old champagne and every one of these magnums and bottles has just arrived direct from the cellars of Veuve Clicquot.

The house has had the extraordinary resourcefulness to set aside 5000 bottles, magnums and jeroboams of every vintage release for its late-disgorged Cave Privée, assembling a remarkable vinothèque of 800,000 bottles dating from 1904 to 2008, of a depth and magnitude unprecedented anywhere in the sparkling world. A bold venture, not least because vintages that don’t age well never surface.

I look forward to sharing these incredible mature champagnes with you over a long lunch at Montrachet on 20 April.
