When Brokenwood legend Iain Riggs came to visit recently, his bag was loaded with new release sneak previews, and none impressed me more than this brand new semillon. The purity and energy of focused lime and lemon zest on show here are really something, and even after five years it’s barely beginning to show the signs of development in bees wax and fresh nuts. The acidity is brilliant, with the structure of the vineyard speaking in layers of textural, mineral, chalky structure, coasting with profound line and length. 2007 was the first and only time Brokenwood saw fruit from this historic vineyard and only 500 cases were made.
