Camille Savès Carte Blanche Brut

Hervé Savès calls Bouzy ‘the Chambertin of Champagne’, and to temper its strength and dominance he adds a touch of chardonnay to this blend. I loved the 2006 base last year, and I love the 2008 even more; a sensational season that charges this intense, pinot-focused blend with scintillating energy and electric acidity. A gorgeous bouquet erupts with the fragrant beauty of freshly picked rose petals and the precision of white cherries and strawberry hull. The palate is intense and lively, with tightly honed malic acidity immaculately counterbalancing the impact of pinot noir from some of Champagne’s most powerful villages. It finishes long and even, with subtle pinot noir spice and impeccably restrained dosage. One of best bargains of the year. $60 at Randall’s.
