Dry River Martinborough Pinot Noir

Dry River has not always delivered pinot noir that lives up to its grand reputation, but welcome to a new day. 2011 is one of the greats, a wine of intense exoticism and great concentration, yet impeccably controlled and alluringly medium-bodied. This estate has classically achieved concentration through low cropping, but in 2011 it has newfound control and grace. Its restraint does nothing to inhibit complexity, alive with exotic spice, rose hip, red liquorice, sarsaparilla and anise, dancing over a core of berry compote fruit and herbal complexity, opening into vanilla, cola and cherry liqueur notes. Tannins are fine, supple and silky and fruit persistence is profound. Cork seal.
