This is the first release of Gaelic Cemetery’s Premium Riesling, but you’ll have to look hard to identify it, as its premium aspirations are only alluded to in the fine print. This is worth looking for, as it’s a big step up from the standard edition. In its tiny 1300 bottle volume, it’s an exciting newcomer to the Clare, shamelessly and confidently flying the flag for a fuller-bodied, more textural Clare riesling. Whole bunch pressed and fermented with partial solids, it’s textural and fleshy and at the same time crunchy, held in vibrant tension thanks to lime juice acidity. An enticing nose of lime blossom, kaffir lime spice and granny smith apple skin contrasts well-gauged solidsy texture that builds great mouth feel on a very long finish.
