Jacob’s Creek Classic Riesling

I wrote 244 words of notes when chief winemaker Bernard Hickin poured this new vintage riesling for me. Got to be a record in word to price ratio. Mostly because it took him that long to explain to me how he can grow such an elegant, cool climate lookalike riesling in Langhorne Creek. Yes, two-thirds of this wine comes from Langhorne Creek. The trick, apparently, is mature vines, painstaking attention to detail, and the blessing of cool nights. The result is again the best riesling in its price category, with varietal definition of crunchy lime and elegant granny smith apple fruit. Its acid line is well drawn and persistence is better than you’d expect. It’s balanced, long and refreshingly ready to drink. $6.60 at Dan Murphy’s. This is not a misprint.
