La Senda de los Elefante Tempranillo Vino de la Terra de Castilla

It’s not often that the premium version of a wine brand sells for $15 (WineStar and North Sydney Cellars) but the extra $5 on the baby elefante is well spent here. For this, you get a 100% tempranillo, half aged in barrels, pepped up with a dash of declassified Rioja. This equates to layers of black cherry and plum fruit depth, lifted with layers of fragrant herbal complexity, notes of savoury earth, concluding with lovely texture of fine, drying tannins. Such an authentic, savoury, textural expression of tempranillo has no right to sell for such a low price, so don’t miss out.
