The Biggest Champagne Tasting Ever

MOËT & CHANDON BREAKS THE GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS TITLE FOR THE LARGEST CHAMPAGNE TASTING EVENT AT SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE

Today on Global Champagne Day, Moët & Chandon, in partnership with Vintage Cellars, broke the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Largest Champagne tasting at the iconic Sydney Opera House on their 44th birthday with over 700 people in attendance.

Moët & Chandon was the first champagne ever to be sprayed from a winner’s podium, and the first to be poured into an elegant champagne tower. It is synonymous with royal jubilees, coronations and celebrations. Moët & Chandon has been creating magical moments for over 270 years and now, as a first for the brand, Moët & Chandon holds the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Largest Champagne tasting event.

Breaking the previous record set by Sweden with 696 participants in 2015, Moët & Chandon, Vintage Cellars and the 715 guests joined internationally recognised authority on champagne, Tyson Stelzer and media personality Lisa Wilkinson at Sydney Opera House as they guided guests through a bespoke tasting of Moët & Chandon’s greatest champagnes – starting with Moët & Chandon Imperial, Rosé Imperial and Grand Vintage 2008. Guests were treated to a Mini Moët on arrival and canapés that were served to compliment the champagne.

Once the toasting concluded, GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator alongside MC, Lisa Wilkinson and Tyson Stelzer announced that Moët & Chandon had won the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Largest Champagne tasting event. Moët Hennessy Australia & New Zealand Managing Director, Andrew McLaren, accepted the title on behalf of the brand and comments on the achievement; “We are so thrilled to accept the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Largest Champagne tasting event with 715 guests. It seems fitting to celebrate such an achievement on Global Champagne Day at the beautiful Sydney Opera House on their 44th Birthday!”

Australia’s Fine Wine Specialist and exclusive retail partner, Vintage Cellars, partnered with Moët & Chandon for the event. “As Australia’s fine wine specialist, we adore everything about Champagne. We are delighted to celebrate Global Champagne Day” says, Jon Yarnall, Head of Marketing at Vintage Cellars.

This record breaking Moët & Chandon event reinforces Australia’s ongoing love affair with Champagne, with Australians popping more than eight million bottles in 2015, the largest number in history. Champagne Expert and host, Tyson Stelzer comments on the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title and consumption of champagne in Australia, “Australia is the fasting growing champagne market in the world, so it’s fitting that this great champagne country down under should break the record for the biggest champagne tasting in history!”
