Vina Muriel Rioja Gran Reserva

Gran Reserva is Muriel’s Reserva with the volume turned up. 3 years in American and French barrels was followed by at least as long in bottle, infusing immense complexity, character and allure, yet, crucially, still very much alive in its core of berry compote fruit, surrounded in a flamboyant flurry of exotic spices, pipe smoke, dried flowers and incense. At almost a decade of age, its cage of finely textured tannins has softened and integrated magnificently, supporting a very long and even finish. Impressive. $45 at WineStar.
