Ashton Hills Reserve Pinot Noir is a stake in the ground of Adelaide Hills terroir, a benchmark to which many aspire and one of the most consistently outstanding expressions of the variety anywhere west of Victoria. 2010 is a wine of calm, effortless purity, of glorious fruit expression, capturing intensity and complexity with supple silkiness. Black cherry and black plum fruit contribute considerable presence, without losing the intrinsic elegance of this cool site. There is a refreshing air of rose petals and violets and an undercurrent of fine, silky tannins, making this one of South Australia’s most beautiful pinot noirs. July 2012 release. $60 direct.
