Mike Press Adelaide Hills Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Bold new livery represents the fourth iteration of the Mike Press label design in nine years, and his name has become larger on each update. The latest redesign puts it confidently front and centre – and rightly so: his is now a cult name in affordable Australian wine circles, and releases like this will keep it there. Intense and full-bodied, yet eminently varietal and characterful, this is a show-stopping Mike Press Cabernet that holds its poise thanks to chewy, well-structured tannins and tangy acidity. Its hue is impressively deep and luminescent, a full vibrant purple. Powerful blackcurrant, cassis, green coffee bean, dark chocolate, capsicum and leaf unite in a dense and scaffolded style. After more than a year in French oak, its woodwork pokes out a little along the way, calling for another year to smooth off its edges, but its tannins are plush, tame and controlled and do not demand years of cellar softening like other recent vintages – making this the wine to drink while the 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 mellow.
