Penfolds Bin 2 Shiraz Mataro

2013 was a warm, dry, early harvest of low yields, producing a blend of depth and intensity of liquorice and black pastilles, underlined by firm, slightly clunky tannins. The black fruits of shiraz (86%( take the lead, supported by the earthy, savoury nuances of mataro (14%). For the record, a blend of Padthaway, McLaren Vale, Wrattonbully, Barossa Valley, Langhorne Creek and Robe, matured for 12 months in seasoned French and American oak barrels. It’s apparently in the market, but I can’t see it anywhere yet.
